Beijing aims to boost high-tech manufacturing

China’s government is once again breathing life into its industrial ambitions, considering a new version of its strategy to boost high-tech manufacturing.

Experts believe this is China’s way of maintaining its dominance in the manufacturing sector, despite President Donald Trump’s efforts to bring more factories back to the United States.

According to current reports, Chinese officials are drafting plans for a future iteration of Xi Jinping’s well-known “Made in China 2025” initiative. Over the next decade, advanced technologies will be high on the agenda for Beijing, with top priority given to semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

At the same time, policymakers preparing China’s next Five-Year Plan—set to begin in 2026—are aiming to preserve a stable contribution of the manufacturing sector to the country’s gross domestic product. This is a key goal for China’s medium- and long-term economic planning.

This strategy suggests that the United States is unlikely to achieve its goal of economic rebalancing anytime soon.
